DIY: Cannabis Infused Honey
Follow this recipe to infuse honey with THC and other cannabinoids.
Cannabis-infused honey, more notably named Cannahoney, offers any culinary artist a perfect ingredient for a variety of sweet recipes that require a THC and CBD infusion. Substitute infused honey for regular honey any time you need an edible dose of your favorite bud.
Ingredients Needed:
2 cups (24 oz) honey of choice
1-2 tablespoons sunflower lecithin
24 grams of cannabis trim or flower of choice
*Note: Potency of honey depends on parts of plant used along with strain and THC levels. For low potency, use 12 grams.
Materials Needed:
Large baking sheet
Crock pot
Mason jar
10”x10” of Cheesecloth
String
Hand Towel
Water
Prep Time: 15 minutes.
Cooking Time: 5-7 hours collectively + stand overnight
Cannahoney Recipe
1. Decarboxylation
A. Heat oven between 200-250 degrees (240 degrees is ideal).
B. Place ground cannabis on baking sheet in a thin, even layer.
C. Cook cannabis between 40-60 minutes, rotating baking sheet once or twice to ensure even heating.
*Note: Cannabis must go through decarboxylation by being properly heated to activate the psychoactive component, THC.
2. Wrap Cannabis
A. Lay out cheesecloth and carefully place cannabis in center.
B. Lift all four corners and tie tightly together with string.
C. Ensure string’s long enough to reach out of Mason jar.
*Note: Ensure all stems and seeds are removed from trim/flower so cheesecloth doesn’t tear.
3. Fill Mason Jar
A. Place cannabis-filled cheesecloth in Mason jar with end of string sticking out for easy retrieval.
B. Pour honey into Mason jar along with sunflower lecithin.
C. Close jar, minding the string.
4. Crockpot Prep
A. Fold hand towel and place on bottom of crockpot.
B. Place filled, closed Mason jar atop towel, ensuring the glass won’t touch the bottom or sides of crockpot.
C. Fill crockpot with water.
5. Infusing the Honey
A. Turn crockpot on low for 4-6 hours, checking every hour and opening the jar to let it “burp” and to move the cannabis-filled cheesecloth in a dipping motion.
B. Once time is up, turn off crockpot and let stand overnight.
6. Ring Out & Store
A. Twist the lid off and pull the cannabis-filled cheesecloth out, ringing it of all honey before discarding.
B. Store in a cool, dry place.
