Carene : Know Your Terpenes

If you’ve ever wondered why cannabis usually causes the eyes and mouth to dry, among other mucous membranes, you have terpenes to thank. Carene, being an anti-inflammatory, is a terpene that contributes to reducing excess fluids, especially those associated with excess inflammation, however, it can also be an irritant to both eyes and skin.

Despite this, its therapeutic qualities have been linked to improving calcium production in bone cells. A study published in 2007 went on to prove that a “low concentration of 3-carene stimulates the differentiation of mouse osteoblastic MC3T3-E1 subclone 4 cells,” which means it can offer even humans potential in fighting against bone loss.

This terpene, like many other terpenes found in cannabis, has a pungent pine-like scent that’s slightly sweeter than most – with a hint of citrus.

Strains with higher traces of carene include Super Silver Haze, Super Lemon Haze, and Arjan’s Ultra Haze.
