Independent by State, Free from Tyranny: Cannabis & Patriotism
Celebrate independence, those that fight for it, and our right to vote for change.
Independence Day is a holiday to revere; to celebrate the glories of our nation's forefathers and commemorate those fighting in the name of their same timeless beliefs. Declaring and fighting for freedom from forces that impede our rights is a concept we all face as teens through puberty as we question authority. But eventually we leave the sanctuary of our home, embark on adventure to new experiences, and settle into a life we deem fulfilling.
It's different for each of us, and this is a perception we learned as a nation beginning with the Declaration of Independence and ending with the final stages of the Civil War. Again, we're facing a, though albeit less violent, dilemma that separates the masses. That of cannabis legalization. However, the movement is moving in the right direction.
The Declaration & Legalization
It says in our Declaration of Independence that,
"...it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it [the government], and to institute New Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness."
It's our responsibility to ensure the government doesn't trample on us (Don't Tread on Me) and this can easily be done when we enact in voting. Acceptance of the plant has increased, up to 61% believing cannabis should be legal, meaning we only need 6% (two-thirds) more to attempt at repealing the plant's current scheduled status.
Stay Free From Tyranny
If merely rescheduled to a type 2, cannabis trade would go under government supervision through health regulations, recreational sales will be stopped, and businesses along with their employees will fall back into the depleting economic capacity controlled by law enforcement. Demand for law enforcement will increase and taxes will work against our well-being.
But if completely removed from the scheduled list, all businesses would remain - perhaps flourish without the government breathing down our necks. More laws would open up by state depicting their own views on legalization, and banks could easily join the movement among other trades.
This 2018 Independence Day, Remember...
Colorado voted in November of 2012 for recreational legalization, laws going into effect January of 2014.
Las Vegas voted for cannabis legalization in November of 2016, and local delivery services went into business in 2017, recreational being delivered to in 2018.
Without those that fight for our country's standing built on the foundation of independence, we'd be overruled by those that stand against us, including our own government.
Stay in the fight. Always vote. Seek petitions. We can do this right, and be independent of the government's supervision that had once deemed possession of this plant worthy of spending a life's imprisonment.
