Curaleaf and Hytiva® Offer the Nation's Food-Insecure with Much-Needed Support
Cannabis companies give a helping hand to local communities.
While the COVID-19 pandemic has receded in the minds of many Americans, its aftereffects are still being felt throughout the country. Particularly with the rising costs of food, more families than ever before struggle to put enough food on the table. In 2020, the nonprofit Feeding America estimated that 54 million people had slipped into food insecurity as of last year. As a result, the cannabis multistate operator Curaleaf inaugurated “Feed the Block,” a fundraising initiative to raise money for food banks, homeless shelters and nonprofits focused on tackling this ongoing crisis. In the face of this persisting crisis, Curaleaf will be hosting it yet again from August 15th to September 15th at all of its retail locations, with 100% of the proceeds going to the charities.
For this year, Curaleaf intends to best the amount raised from last year of $119,000 and will match a portion of the total raised. The funds will be raised throughout the month from all of Curaleaf’s stores. Customers can contribute by telling their budtenders that they want to “Feed the Block,” and they can sign a leaf to show their support for the project.
As was the case with the previous two years, staff members from Curaleaf will also participate in volunteer work with the food-insecure within their home communities. It’s all part of Curaleaf’s Rooted in Good program, which encompasses ongoing efforts of the company to address social equity, environmental sustainability and other pressing societal issues. "With 'Rooted in Good,' we're focused on developing social impact work that meets the needs of our communities at the deepest level. Each of our 'Feed the Block' partners was evaluated to ensure they directly reach the communities most impacted by food insecurity in the cities and states that Curaleaf operates," said VP of Corporate Social Responsibility Khadijah Tribble. "Our strategic partners help us maximize community impact and demonstrate our values as a company that believes in the power of doing the right thing."
Feeding of The Masses
Since 2020, Curaleaf has given to Vegas Roots in the Nevada area. Hytiva® also fulfills its social obligations by giving to Three Square, Southern Nevada’s only food bank. According to Three Square, 447,000 people in Southern Nevada now suffer with food insecurity since the beginning of the pandemic. Hytiva® assists with both donated meals and works with others to match donations. Working with Feeding America, Three Square maximizes its donations; for every dollar they receive, they provide three meals for those they serve. You can donate to their worthy efforts here.
In addition, Hytiva® also donates to the White Heart Foundation, which fills the gap between the continued medical and personal assistance our veterans receive from the US Government and the needs that persist in their lives. Better yet, 100% of their funds goes to the vets as well, making them an exceptional charitable fund. You can donate to their worthy efforts here.
Finally, through Team Hytiva®, Hytiva® co-sponsored the Electric Drive America Golf Tournament in 2021 with Shelby America, Ford Motor Company and other Vegas-based businesses to support the Boys and Girls Club of Southwest Nevada.
